چکیده
Barry Bradford completed dual bachelor’s degrees at Iowa State University and a doctorate in animal nutrition at Michigan State University. In 2006, he began his current position as an assistant professor at Kansas State University. Bradford oversees an active research program focused on alternative feedstuffs, transition cow health, and physiological regulation of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. In addition, he teaches over 150 students per year in several undergraduate courses in nutrition and physiology.

Interactions between negative energy balance, metabolic diseases, uterine health and immune response in transition dairy cows.
The biological cycles of milk production and reproduction determine dairying profitability thus making management decisions dynamic and time-dependent. Diseases also negatively impact on net earnings of a dairy enterprise. Transition cows in particular face the challenge of negative energy balance (NEB) and/or disproportional energy metabolism (fatty liver, ketosis, subacute, acute ruminal acid...
متن کاملThe effects of post-partum drops in body condition on indices of energy metabolism in mid-lactation Holstein cows
Background: Evaluation of energy metabolism indices in mid-lactation Holstein cows is critical to monitor health status. Aims: The objective of this study was to assess the effects of low (≤0.75) vs. high (>0.75) drops in body condition score (BCS) until day 60 post-partum on energy metabolism indices during mid-lactation in Holstein cows. Meth...
متن کاملAmino Acid Balancing and Its Role on Metabolism, Inflammation, and Oxidative Stress: Future Molecular Implications
The modern dairy cow has been selected over generations for high milk production, with many successful dairy operations averaging over 13,500 kg of milk per lactation cycle per cow. This amount of nutrient output in the form of milk components puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the metabolism of the dairy cow, especially during early lactation. In fact, it is common to all mammals, includi...
متن کاملStudy on the effect of left displacement of abomasum (LDA) on serum minerals and biochemical changes in dairy cows
Minerals and some biochemical parameters determined from blood serum analyses in left displacement abomasum (LDA) affected and healthy dairy cows to evaluate the effect of displacement abomasum on mineral status, energy metabolism and liver function. Samples were collected from 60 affected cows and 60 healthy control cows matched with cases, based on herd, parity, and stage of lactation. Concen...
متن کاملSex of offspring influences metabolism during early transition period in dairy cows
A study using 20 Holstein Friesian cows was conducted to investigate the influence of calf gender on metabolism during the transition period in dairy cattle. Blood samples were collected at three time points: 2–4 days prepartum (time 1), and 1 week and 2 weeks postpartum (time 2 and time 3 respectively). Serum samples obtained were analysed for total proteins, albumin, urea, glucose, non-esteri...
